There's a new device on the market that promises to keep people from getting nailed by red-light cameras. It doesn't trick the camera or even hide the license plate, it merely warns the driver of an upcoming red-light camera.
The software keeps track of red-light camera locations in Albuquerque and around the world. The device warns the driver of an upcoming red-light camera by beeping. "We're not trying to alter your car or your plate in any way. We're just using something that's a really nice high tech piece of safety," said Peter Ziesmann of Phantomalert.com. The database of red-light cameras is based on driver input. It can also alert drivers about speed traps. Phantom Alert costs about $10 to download. The Albuquerque Police Department says it is for the device if it helps people slow down. Watch video here (http://kob.com/article/stories/S557217.shtml?cat=500). |
